nterventions in the canvas between the application of layers of pigment result in a recording of the previous states of the surface in this series of works exploring perception of relief and ambiguity. The surface of this painting presents the illusion of deep relief in a crumpled material. As the title suggests this piece is inspired by early photographic techniques and the way that the rough and inconsistent application of photographic emulsions gave the illusion that the resulting image was viewed through a brushed aperture. This piece is shipped wired to be displayed in the orientation shown but is intended to be hung in any orientation.
