Green Linguoid
Curatorial Note
Rich and sensuous, this painting features a folded and rippled surface reminiscent of the ridges the tide leaves behind in the sand on a beach. Interventions in the canvas between the application of layers of pigment result in a recording of the previous states of the surface in this series of works exploring perception of relief and ambiguity. The surface of this painting presents the illusion of relief. I recommend hanging these pieces in sympathy with the light sources in the room to reinforce the optical illusion of light striking a ridged surface. The canvas is mounted on a reclaimed strainer with reclaimed gold coloured frame which is slightly battered and scratched, giving a sense of faded luxury. This piece would hang well in any room where a sense of old world luxury and distressed grandeur is desired.
